The Save-A-Life Guide

The SAVE-A-LIFE GUIDE is a listing of all no-kill shelters, organizations, and individual rescuers focusing on companion animals in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex area. Over 240 listings are included for cats and dogs with additional sections on rescue resources for all other animals as well as wildlife. Also included are traditional shelters and animal control services. The GUIDE includes actions to take when a pet is lost, the various ID systems available, low-cost spay-neuter resources, 24-hour emergency hospitals, maps of the metroplex, internet resources, where to find out about animal-related legislation, information about animal rights and advocacy organizations and much more. Responsible pet ownership handouts, the application form for the Animal-Friendly license plate program, and information on various grant opportunities are part of the GUIDE. The GUIDE is intended to meet the needs of anyone helping animals in any capacity, from veterinarian offices, rescue groups dealing with the public, neighborhood Good Samaritans, shelters, to those wanting to network and collaborate with others, etc.
The SAVE-A-LIFE GUIDE is a tool to be used with patience and persistence to achieve results. The user will have many more options in problem-solving any given situation but needs to be aware that the GUIDE is not a CONSUMER REPORTS type of publication; the user remains responsible for checking into the resource being considered for use.
The organizations and individuals listed within The GUIDE are neither approved, disapproved, rated, nor endorsed by the author of the GUIDE or by Ahimsa, Inc. The GUIDE will not be held responsible for the condition of any facility listed herein, nor for the condition of any animal held by any agency or individual listed. The GUIDE is in no way responsible for the performance, or lack thereof, of any listee which appears within The GUIDE pages. We encourage potential adoptors to be responsible and make educated decisions with regard to where they adopt their next pet.
Donations to support the continued existence of the SAVE-A-LIFE GUIDE are requested. The usefulness of the GUIDE depends upon constant researching of the listings to ensure accuracy and completeness. Research involves telephone contacts (with bills resulting), use of the computer (with bills for the line), writing, and on-site visits. Also, for a number of reasons, portable copies of the GUIDE are essential in many situations so that donations cover the costs of printing and mailing at a cost-only level with nothing to spare. Anyone sending more than a minimum donation makes it possible for a copy to be distributed as a public service which could not otherwise be afforded. At this time the GUIDE does not have either grant or advertising support as these are both time-consuming approaches to financing, so for the moment it is dependent upon both feedback from the helping community and support from the helping community to exist. All labor involved with the GUIDE is donated. Ahimsa, Inc. would love to be in a position to give the GUIDE away free but this is not possible if it is to continue to exist.
Changes, additions, and corrections and feedback in general on issues involved with using the GUIDE are needed and very appreciated so that continuous improvements can be made in the usefulness of The GUIDE. Listing within The GUIDE is free. Contact the author for further information about being included. The content of The GUIDE will be continually updated and revised with new editions and/or updates produced on a twice-yearly, or as needed, basis.
The GUIDE is available to non-profit organizations for a donation of $25.00. Copies will also be made available to for-profit animal related businesses for a donation of $50.00.
