Update - Dharma Donkey Sanctuary - Pramod Deshmukh - July 2001

Vaccination and De-worming camp for the donkeys

A camp for the vaccination and de-worming medication was organized at the D.D.Sanctuary premises, Sagroli on 15th of July 2001 (Sunday) The Blue cross, Hyderabad has taken initiative and sent a team of doctors, assistants and the medicines. An overwhelming response from the surrounding 30 villagers was an exciting experience. A huge number of 750 donkeys were brought by their masters. The crew conducted the camp quite hospitably for 9 hours. All the donkeys were vaccinated and the injections for Anti TT, Sarra were given. Apart from these, the sick and injured donkeys were also treated.

Ten students of our school assisted the doctors. The doctors conducted two major surgeries including an amputation of entire tail. The complete stock of medicines they have brought was fully utilized and it has fallen short by the evening. The vets distributed free medicines for general ailments of donkeys to all these participants. The villagers were so happy. Such a major camp for donkeys was never conducted before. It was in fact a boosting factor for our working spirit.

A meeting of all those donkey masters was organized on the spot. The objectives of the D.D.S. were narrated by Mr. Pramod Deshmukh, Village Sarpanch (President of village council). On the demand, it was decided to conduct such a camp ( possibly) for every six months.

Secondly it was also decided to conduct a donkey fair at the premises once in year (in April) so as to facilitate the buying and selling of donkeys. Many villagers of Sagroli visited the D.D.S. on the occasion.

An entry register was maintained at the camp and the details of Donkeys, their ailments, the addresses of their masters were entered for further contacts in future. Photographs were taken on the occasion and they will be sent thru Noah's export soon after processing.

The camp was concluded in the late evening.
